Where else but Canberra can you casually come across inspiring researchers and local experts while shopping at your local shopping centre? Pop out for some new shoes and get some ecology while you’re at it?
On the two weekends bookending National Science Week this year (15-16 August and 22-23 August) you can find a range of science activities at shopping centres throughout Canberra. All of the major shopping centres are taking part:
- Canberra Centre
- Gungahlin Marketplace
- South Point in Tuggeranong
- Cooleman Court
- Woden Westfield
- Belconnen Westfield
- Majura Park
A range of science organisations are providing hands on activities covering topics as diverse as the physics of engineering to the biology of pollination, plus a strong showing of native wildlife with opportunities to get up close and personal with some of our favourite local critters (snakes, giant insects and if you’re lucky a sugar glider!)
Many activities are great for little ones to get a taste of science in action. But adults of all ages are also encouraged to stop and chat to the stall holders. These stalls are run by dedicated volunteers and expert staff from science organisations all over Canberra. All the scientists are secretly yearning to share their favourite science facts and points of wonder with you.
