  • Marine Rescue Port Macquarie Boat Shed
11A Buller Street, Port Macquarie, NSW 2444, Australia

Ever wondered how science helps rescue people at sea? Come and find out!

Join Marine Rescue Port Macquarie for an exciting day of discovery, adventure, and hands-on activities as we explore the science, technology, and people behind marine rescue operations.

Held at the Marine Rescue Port Macquarie boat shed, this free community event will give visitors a unique opportunity to meet real rescue volunteers, step aboard rescue vessels, and learn how science and technology are used every day to keep people safe on the water.

Throughout the day, experienced volunteers and maritime experts will deliver a series of fascinating talks and demonstrations, where you will get to:

  • Meet inspiring women working in the maritime industry and learn about their journeys on the water.
  • Discover how lifejackets, liferafts, and other safety equipment use scientific principles to help save lives.
  • Learn what happens when an emergency beacon (EPIRB) is activated and how rescuers use technology to locate people in distress.
  • Find out how radios help coordinate rescues and learn important boating safety tips.
  • Explore how floods develop, what you can do to stay safe, and how rescue teams respond during emergencies.

Between presentations, visitors can take part in a range of interactive activity stations designed to make learning fun, including rope tying and pulley demonstrations, guided rescue vessel tours, rescue ring throwing challenges, and more.

Whether you're a boating enthusiast, a curious student, a family looking for a fun day out, or someone interested in science and technology, there's something for everyone. Come and meet the volunteers who dedicate their time to saving lives on the water, ask questions, try hands-on activities, and discover how science plays a vital role in marine rescue.
