Rock up and celebrate local Youth stories on the big screen!
Stories from the Desert: Barcaldine Youth Community Screening is a fun, inclusive red-carpet event for families, students, teachers and the whole community.
Come to Barcaldine Radio Cinema to watch short films made by young people from Barcaldine State School, Aramac State School, Alpha State School and St Joseph’s Catholic School.
These films were created through Noosa Film Academy’s Stories from the Desert: Outback STEM Eco-Tourism workshops, proudly supported by the Queensland Government through Engaging Science Grants. The project helps very remote Queensland Youth build science literacy, critical thinking, digital skills and awareness of STEM career pathways.
Students used cameras, microphones, teamwork and big ideas to explore nature-based tourism and eco-tourism stories from Alpha, Aramac and Barcaldine. Their films look at fossils, stars, wildlife, trees, landscapes, local history and the science of what makes these outback places special.
Eco-tourism means more than visiting beautiful places. It means learning about nature, respecting culture, caring for the environment and helping local communities share what makes their home unique.
The event will also include Greg Huglin’s OCEAN’S 50, a careers advice movie montage showing how curiosity, science, nature, travel and filmmaking can become a real screen career.
This screening is a chance to cheer for local young people, see their creativity on the big screen and celebrate the amazing science stories of the Central West.
Entry is complimentary. Everyone is welcome.
