Discover the exciting connection between science, technology, engineering, mathematics and music in this hands-on, interactive workshop presented by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) and CQUniversity’s STEM Central.
Participants will explore how music and STEM work together through a variety of engaging activities led by QSO musicians and STEM educators. Learn about rhythm and its connection to maths in a percussion workshop with QSO percussionists, experiment with energy transfer through domino cascades, and use robotics and coding to bring musical notation to life.
Get creative by drawing your response to orchestral music, creating colourful light paintings inspired by sound, and programming Sphero robots to follow musical scores, perform dance routines, or compose their own robotic symphonies. Participants will also investigate the science of vibrations by building molecular models and discovering how the vibrations of molecules relate to the sounds produced by musical instruments.
Designed for curious minds of all ages, this workshop encourages creativity, problem-solving, collaboration and innovation while demonstrating the fascinating links between the arts and STEM. Participants will have opportunities to experiment, create, code, design and perform in a fun and supportive environment.
The workshop is proudly presented in conjunction with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and CQUniversity’s STEM Central, with support from Australia Pacific LNG ConocoPhillips, Shell’s QGC and Santos GLNG.
Join us for a unique STEM and music experience, then continue the celebration by attending QSO’s Symphony Under the Stars at the Gladstone Marina.
