Join the Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO) and see the invisible Universe with our table-top radio telescope (TTRT).
A hands-on activity for all ages, we will show you how radio astronomers peer through clouds of interstellar dust to map the distant regions of our galaxy, even while the sun is up.
The SKAO table-top radio telescope can provide a real time radio astronomy observation of the Milky Way in less than one minute, by measuring the emission from hydrogen gas. Learn how you can even construct your own at home for less than $200.
This free, drop-in activity is open to all – don’t miss your chance to be a radio astronomer for the day.
After the activity, make sure you visit Cosmic Echoes: A Shared Sky Indigenous Art Exhibition at the Museum of Geraldton. The collaborative exhibition stems from a vision by the SKAO and its partners, CSIRO – Australia’s national science agency, the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) and the Wajarri Yamaji Aboriginal Corporation (WYAC) to celebrate humanity’s ancient cultural wisdom and how it relates to modern science.
We acknowledge the Wajarri Yamaji as Traditional Owners and Native Title Holders of Inyarrimanha Ilgari Bundara, the CSIRO Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory, home of the SKAO’s SKA-Low telescope.
