During National Science Week, our school will run an exciting whole-school event called “Seeds of Curiosity: A National Science Week Learning Festival.” This is a special day where every student from Prep to Year 6 becomes a scientist, engineer, and inventor for the day!

The festival is designed to spark curiosity, help students think like real scientists, and show that science is everywhere in our world.

The day will begin with a whole-school assembly where students will hear from a real STEM professional as our keynote speaker. Students will also celebrate scientific achievement through the announcement of winners from our school’s Excellence Expo science category.

After the assembly, students will take part in a conference-style science experience. Each student will receive a science conference lanyard and STEM passport, just like real scientists at a conference. They will then choose three hands-on workshops based on their interests.

These workshops will be led by teachers, community experts, and trained Student STEM Ambassadors. Students will rotate through exciting STEM activities across environmental science, engineering, chemistry, physics, digital technologies, and sustainability. Every activity will involve hands-on investigation, problem solving, and discovery.

Throughout the day, students will collect small items or results from their experiments and investigations in a take-home science bag. This allows them to share their learning with their families and continue exploring science at home.

A special part of the festival will be our “Seeds of Curiosity Tree” and Curiosity Wall, where students will write questions, discoveries, and ideas they had during the day. These will help inspire future investigations and STEM learning across the school.

The festival will finish by celebrating student success and curiosity, but the learning will not stop there. Ideas sparked during the day will be continued in our lunchtime STEMMIES club, where students can explore their own science questions and build new projects.

This festival is all about helping students see themselves as scientists and showing that curiosity is the first step to discovery.
