Science with an Indigenous Perspective

In welcome we would like to recognise the traditional Owners of the country, the Aboriginal peoples. As knowledge is shared, may we pay respect to the knowledge embedded forever within the Aboriginal custodianship of the country.

When Indigenous Australian's arrived here long ago, they began to observe everything closely.

As time went on, they discovered and invented many things. They were the first to recognise the importance of caring for the land and living a sustainable lifestyle. They produced flying
machines, tools, medicines, art, musical instruments and many other technologies based on their observations and adaptation to their environment

In our show we looked at only a few Aboriginal technologies, in the science areas of Flight, Fire and Sound.

For Indigenous Australians living a traditional lifestyle, science doesn't take place in a classroom, it takes place on the land, by doing, investigating and adapting. These key traits are important for all Australian scientists indigenous and non-indigenous, traditional ornon-traditional. Curiosity can bring discovery.
