School Garden Showcase

  • From
  • Pannawonica School
    Pannawonica, Pannawonica, WA 6716, Australia

Our school garden will become an exciting outdoor classroom where students will develop their understanding of how to care for plants through hands-on scientific investigations. During this learning experience, students will test the pH of the soil to discover how soil acidity and alkalinity can affect plant health and growth. They will also investigate the composition of the soil in each garden bed, identifying the different materials that create healthy growing conditions for plants.

Students will learn about caring for Australian native plants by applying liquid smoke to our native bush plants. They will discover that liquid smoke can help encourage healthy root growth by mimicking the natural chemicals released after bushfires, supporting the germination and development of many native species.

Through these activities, students will develop their scientific inquiry skills by observing, testing, recording results and drawing conclusions about how to keep our school garden healthy and thriving. They will build an understanding of sustainable gardening practices while becoming thoughtful environmental stewards who appreciate the importance of caring for living things and the ecosystems around them.
