Discover the Hidden History of LGBTQIA+ Scientists – An Interactive Walking Tour

Please note this event is completely FREE thanks to the support of Inspire Australia and National Science Week.  However, registration is essential as places are limited.

Did you know that every Australian state and territory has been home to amazing LGBTQIA+ scientists?

Join Queer Food on Saturday 15 August at 11:00 am, starting at Questacon Science Garden, for a unique walking tour with eight stops celebrating LGBTQIA+ scientists from across Australia. At each stop, you'll discover the story of an inspiring scientist from one of Australia's states or territories and learn how their work has helped shape the world we live in today.

Their stories span many areas of science, and you'll learn about their discoveries, the challenges they faced, and why diversity in science leads to better ideas and better outcomes for everyone.

At each stop, you'll also enjoy a small tasting inspired by the scientist's life, research or home state, creating a fun and memorable way to connect science, history and food.

The tour is designed for people aged 12 and over, and no science knowledge is needed. We'll explain everything in a fun and easy-to-understand way, but this event is also more about having the conversation together, so please feel free to ask questions your share your own understanding and ideas throughout the walk.
