Your crew has landed on the Moon. The oxygen is limited, the water is scarce, and your team is hungry. What do you grow first?
Welcome to the Moon Base Challenge — where your decisions could save the mission!
This action-packed two-hour workshop drops you straight into the boots of a real space mission planner. Starting inside the Cosmic Echoes Exhibition, afterwards you'll uncover the jaw-dropping science behind what it actually takes to keep humans alive and fed during long space missions. Real research. Real problems. Real stakes.
Then the challenge begins! Working in teams, you'll tackle one of the most complex puzzles in modern space science, designing a sustainable food system for a lunar base. Sounds simple? Think again.
You'll need to weigh up:
Which plants grow fastest with the least resources
Which crops pack the most nutrition per centimetre
How to use water, light and space as efficiently as possible
How to keep your crew fed, happy and mission-ready
This isn't just biology, its engineering, teamwork, ethics and systems thinking all rolled into one brilliantly chaotic team challenge! Groups will debate, disagree, problem-solve and defend their decisions before presenting their ultimate lunar food plan.
There are no easy answers. There are no wrong teams. But there is only ONE Moon Base, and yours needs to work.
