Little Scientists and Playgroup NSW are collaborating to offer two exciting and engaging STEM workshops.
Playgroup NSW is a not-for-profit organisation that helps connect families and children to people and services in the community to positively impact their quality of life. All Playgroup NSW programs are designed to help families navigate the challenges of parenting and build strong, resilient communities.
Workshops will occur during Play Strong sessions. Play Strong playgroups are free, supported sessions for parents and children aged 0–3, offering age-appropriate activities that build children’s learning, social skills and development, while helping parents learn about early childhood education, the value of play, and ways to support development at home.
Little Scientists is Australia’s leading provider of STEM professional development to the early childhood education sector. Its mission is to champion inquiry-based STEM education for all children aged 0-8 years across Australia.
Little Scientists’ STEM Family Workshops are one-hour, facilitated sessions for children aged 0–8 years and their parents or carers. During each play-based workshop, a Little Scientists trainer will support families to follow their interests and engage with a series of age-appropriate STEM challenges using everyday materials. Workshops are designed to:
-
Increase parent and carer awareness of the developmental importance of early STEM learning.
-
Demonstrate how STEM learning can be supported at home using low-cost, everyday materials.
-
Build parent confidence to nurture children’s curiosity, problem-solving skills, and STEM dispositions.
-
Support children who may not yet be engaged in formal early learning settings.
-
Overcome misconceptions about the types of children who can engage in early STEM learning.
