Join us for a mini-Wikipedia edit-a-thon! Work with local Wiki editors as we expand and update articles related to the diverse people, knowledges, and discoveries that make science what it is today.  

Light catering provided. Walk in at any time. All experience levels welcome.

In a world of AI summaries and digital hype cycles, one website stands out as a bastion of well sourced knowledge and easily navigated tables of content: Wikipedia.  

Wikipedia isn’t perfect though.  

Just like our other knowledge systems, Wikipedia has historically struggled to represent the lives and accomplishments of the countless scientists with diverse and often marginalised identities whose contributions have helped create the world we live in today.  

However, you can help fix this! On Wikipedia, anyone can make a change! Literally. Anyone can make edits and add to this free, global resource!  

Together we can expand the representation of the diverse scientists and knowledges at the centre of what makes science worth knowing and doing.  

Attendees will: 

• Learn how to navigate the Wikipedia editor tools
• Hear from members of the Australian WikiMedia team
  
• Help update and expand articles from a prepared list of STEMM researchers from marginalised backgrounds and identities, and topics related to inclusive science topics 
  
• Work with other local community members passionate about improving STEMM representation online
