Gut Feelings Community Art Project at the Indigenous Science Experience Redfern

  • - (AEST)
  • Redfern Community Centre
29-53 Hugo Street, Redfern, NSW 2016, Australia

Why would scientists want to study poo? Meet a microbiome researcher to find out and make weird bugs with Gut Feelings artists. Add your own colourful creation to a growing network of microbes and elements of gut anatomy or take one home.

Join us as we wrap, stitch and weave textile microbes and natter about the wonder and complexity of the gut-brain connection. Learn more about the rich and diverse community of bacteria, viruses, fungi and more who live in harmony within us. Find how these contribute to our overall well-being and mental health. Meet the artists behind the project who will lead the crafting session. This is a free event, materials and patterns are provided. If you prefer knitting and crochet to crafting, please bring your own needles and hooks. All ages and skill levels welcome, children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Gut Feelings Community Art Project promotes connections between science and the everyday. Researchers from the Microbiome Research Centre will be available on the day.  This activity reframes craft as both art and outreach: an invitation to slow down and discover new connections between gut, brain, and community. This project is supported by Inspiring Australia NSW as part of National Science Week.
