Engineer an earthquake proof structure. Build a catapult and launch projectiles with precision. Then, strap in for the fastest tire change your team can manage in a high-energy pit stop challenge—like a Formula 1 event.
During National Science Week, Mitcham Girls High School invites teams of four Year 5-6 girls from local primary schools for a hands-on Engineering Triathlon. Throughout the day, participants rotate through three real-world engineering scenarios, each designed to put STEM skills to the test:
All activities are overseen by student leaders from the Mitcham Girls High School Science Club, who’ll act as mentors and judges. Teams receive guidance, feedback, and detailed scoring rubrics for each challenge.
The overall event winner will be determined by combined points from all three challenges. Every participant will gain new skills, project experience, and a taste for engineering—having had the chance to explore STEM fields in a supportive, all-girl environment.
The event’s focus is tangible, practical application of science, math, and engineering principles, developed to inspire, inform, and encourage young women to imagine themselves as future engineers, problem-solvers, and innovators.
