Drawing on experimental urban play methodologies developed through 64 Ways of Being, RMIT future play lab presents a new XR experience inspired by ongoing research into the Doveton bat colony and the speculative future explored in the exhibition Primary Succession. Expanding beyond site-specific interaction, the work creates immersion anywhere into shifting ecologies, environmental transformation and posthuman ways of being with the world. Through speculative storytelling and immersive digital environments, audiences are invited to encounter the colony not as distant observers, but as participants within a living ecosystem shaped by movement, adaptation and interdependence.
Positioned between immersive theatre, urban play, and extended reality, the experience continues future play lab’s exploration of how technology can deepen connections to place, ecology and collective imagination. The work asks audiences to consider how humans coexist alongside other species, and what new forms of awareness emerge when we experience the world through more-than-human perspectives.
