“Eggpicnic at the Gardens” is an exhibition born from a deep connection with the Australian National Botanic Gardens, celebrating the many species and stories revealed through years of observation and time spent with the Gardens.

As Canberra-based artists, the ANBG has long been a source of inspiration for Eggpicnic. Through frequent visits, they began to uncover the many layers of life within the Gardens. Each visit revealed something new. At first, it was the flowering banksias that captured their attention; then the birds and marsupials that moved through the Gardens, and later the world of fungi discovered within the rainforest.

Over time, these repeated encounters transformed the way Eggpicnic experienced the Gardens, revealing the complex stories and relationships between species. This exhibition reflects that journey, a collection of artworks inspired by the process of looking closer and learning more about the richness of life within the Gardens.

Through illustration and sculpture, Eggpicnic celebrates the character of the species found throughout the Gardens, transforming observations and encounters into visual stories. The works invite visitors to experience this landscape in all its layers, observing how species and seasonal changes reveal themselves through repeated encounters, as they have for Eggpicnic over years of visiting.
