Following on from the Stage 3 students enjoyment of the Science and Engineering Challenge and having Yr 11 students as helpers, Dubbo Public School are aiming to copy this during Science Week. This will happen by working with teachers and students from Dubbo College Senior Campus.
The day will involve groups of Stage 3 students rotating around different activities prepared by their own amazing teachers. Two Science teachers from Dubbo College Senior Campus will roam amongst the groups and the Yr 11 students will once again provide amazing assistance to the primary students.
Senior Campus will loan some equipment to Dubbo Public School for the day so the primary students can experience the microscopic world of seeds and flowers and bugs. Lab coats and safety glasses will make the Stage 3 students feel like real scientists for the day.
Some of the activities will be:
making a seedling maze (which will be ongoing for the Stage 3 students)
seed and flower dissections
microscope beasties and flowers
making models of seeds based on how they spread (ending with a competition of 'how far will your seed travel in the air?'
The teachers from both schools are looking forward to the collaboration of Stage 3 and Stage 6 Science students and providing an awesome science experience for all.
