Ever made an earthquake? Now’s your chance!

Jump, move, and play with hands-on science activities that show you how earthquakes work.

1. See your own earthquake waves

Jump on the spot and watch your jump turn into real earthquake waves on a screen.

Find out how scientists use these waves to learn when and where earthquakes happen.

2. Shake the city

Use a shaketable with wooden buildings and see how short and tall buildings move differently in different kinds of earthquakes.
Test which designs stay standing when the ground starts to shake.

3. Meet the earthquake team and try their tools

Meet real earthquake geologists and hear what their job is like—from computer work in the office to boots-on-the-ground fieldwork.
Use an iPad to scan rocks, just like we do in the field.
Check out the drones and GPS tools we use to make 3D maps of the Earth after an earthquake.

Chat with us about the most recent earthquakes our group has investigated in Australia, and learn simple steps you can take to stay safe if you ever feel an earthquake.

This is your chance to try some of the real tools and technology scientists use to study earthquakes. Whether you’re 8 or 80, you’ll see how our planet shakes and moves—and maybe even decide you want to be an earthquake scientist one day.
