The Art of Discovery is a week‑long art showcase celebrating the creativity, complexity, and humanity behind scientific research. This exhibition invites students, researchers and citizen scientists to share their work not just as data, but as stories. Revealing both the beauty of discovery and the reality of life in the lab.
Works on display will represent four themes
Together, these categories highlight the full spectrum of scientific experience. From experiments that didn’t go to plan, to moments of clarity, and to the everyday realities of being a researcher.
Works include microscopy photographs, figures presenting data, experimental set-up diagrams, traditional artworks themed around science, and more. All works will include a written component to ensure the work is welcoming to all science enthusiasts. Through a combination of visual art and storytelling, The Art of Discovery seeks to humanise science, making it more accessible, relatable, and inspiring for all.
The exhibition will be open Monday to Friday of National Science Week.
A Presentation and awards evening will be Thursday 20 August from 4pm onwards.
Hosted by BioZone, an initiative of the University of Western Australia. BioZone aims to foster an environment for transdisciplinary perspectives and collaboration; assembling researchers from disciplines including biomedical sciences, molecular biology, and engineering.
