Join Upper Murrumbidgee Waterwatch for a guided walk along the Queanbeyan River. This walk gives you a chance to look for platypus in the wild and enjoy time by the water.
At the start, we will share some simple facts about the river, its animals, and why healthy waterways are important. Then we will take an easy walk along the riverbank and stop at places where platypus are often seen.
You will learn how to spot a platypus, how they move, and when they are most active. We will also talk about the challenges they face and how people can help protect them. You will hear about how volunteers help collect information about rivers and wildlife.
We will move slowly and quietly to give us the best chance of seeing a platypus. We may also see other wildlife such as birds and fish. While we cannot promise a platypus sighting, the river is a great place to look, and being outdoors at this time of day is special.
What to expect:
What to bring: Warm clothes, sturdy shoes, a torch (for evening walks), and your curiosity.
Come along to enjoy the river and be part of a community caring for our catchment.
