Wings (science, music and art installation featuring the birds of Sydney) and The Theory of Relativity (a musical take on Einstein's theory), are a paired set of performances in the Coal Loader, Waverton. These shows consider the beauty and power of Sydney's birdlife, melding the creative and the scientific through video, photo, installation, live performance and music.
During the day the Coal Loader installation Wings boldly showcases Sydney's birdlife (Aug 7-19, 11am-4pm) and at night The Theory of Relativity (Neil Bartram and Brian Hill, 2014) is a live theatre and music event.
Wings is an immersive installation exploring the birdlife of North Sydney in the century old tunnels at The Coal Loader in Waverton: a multi-sensory event that brings science and creativity together. Wings features sculpture from Tom Buckland, video and photography from Anne Morphett, music from Narelle Yeo, Sarah Levins, Jerome Blazé and Alexis Weaver, science installs from Alice Motion, costume from Brendan De La Hay and actor/musicians from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. A co-production of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and Wherenext Theatre Company, 'Wings' gives you the chance to walk through the tunnels and notice birds from a different perspective.
NB: Wheelchair Access: The Coal Loader is technically wheelchair accessible, but not every room in the Wings installation is accessible due to the low doorways and the ground can be uneven. The main rooms are accessible via the fire exit doors (every 4 rooms or so). The Theory of Relativity is wheelchair accessible.
