Ever looked at a pile of soil, a glass of water, or a wriggling worm and wondered what's really going on in there? What's Alive in Here? is a hands-on science series that gets curious about the living world all around us — and the tiny building blocks it's made of.

Across two days, join qualified teacher and permaculturist Nicola Apps for four fun, hands-on sessions. Peer through microscopes, test how acidic different things are, meet the worms that keep our soil alive, and discover the science hidden in a glass of water. You'll even see chemistry put on a colourful show with the famous flame test, where different salts burn in surprisingly different colours.

Each session stands on its own, so you can come to just one or follow the thread across all four. Expect plenty of exploring, questioning and discovering — no lab coat required.

Held at Homegrown Nature Play in Rockhampton, these sessions are welcoming and relaxed, with homeschooling families and neurodivergent young people especially in mind. Free to attend, with just 20 places per session — so book early!
