Through the Mozzie SHIELDS project, researchers are combining citizen science, education, and genomics to track invasive mosquito species and the viruses they can spread. By studying how mosquitoes move, survive, and adapt, the team is developing smarter and more sustainable ways to manage mosquito populations and reduce disease risk. The research takes a "from the field, to the lab, and back to the field" approach, transforming scientific discoveries into practical solutions that can benefit communities across Australia. 

The Mosquito Genomics Laboratory uses advanced genomic technologies and population modelling to understand how mosquitoes travel between locations, interact with their environment, and respond to control strategies. Their work is helping shape the next generation of mosquito management, reducing reliance on chemical insecticides and supporting healthier communities.
