When space scientists test Indigenous plants against modern crops for nutrition, survival, and resilience, who wins? The results might just surprise you. You get to discover the answer!
Welcome to the Space Salad Lab — where Indigenous plants and modern crops meet outer space food science!
This epic two-hour outdoor workshop is unlike any science class you've ever had. Held outside at the beautiful Gwoonwardu Mia Cultural Centre, it starts with a mind-opening exploration of how First Nations peoples have understood plants as food, medicine, and life for thousands of years.
Then the fun really begins! You'll build your very own space salad, test it like an astronaut on a mission, and put it through a battery of real nutrient tests to discover exactly what's hiding inside your food:
Along the way, you'll grind, mix, squirt and discover whether your salad actually makes the grade for a two-year Mars mission. Ancient knowledge and cutting-edge science working together, could YOUR creation fuel the future of space travel? Whose crops hold more nutritional value?
This workshop is hands-on, laugh-out-loud fun and packed with real science and real cultural connections.
