Seeds of Science: Growing Future Scientists at Bonnyrigg High School.
What starts as a tiny seed can grow into something amazing. The same is true for scientific ideas.
During National Science Week 2026, Bonnyrigg High School students will take part in a week of exciting lunchtime STEM challenges designed to spark curiosity, encourage creativity and help students discover the scientist within them. Inspired by the theme "Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All", students will explore how small questions can grow into big discoveries.
Each day will feature a different hands-on challenge. Students will investigate mystery seeds, solve a CSI-style science mystery, explore the microscopic world through microscopes, design and build engineering solutions, and participate in a Science Week celebration showcasing their scientific thinking and creativity. Activities will be open to students of all ages and abilities, creating opportunities for everyone to participate, collaborate and succeed.
Throughout the week, students will collect stamps in a Science Passport as they complete challenges and grow from "Curious Seeds" into "Future Scientists". Student leaders and STEM ambassadors will help run activities, fostering leadership and mentoring opportunities across year groups.
The event aims to increase student engagement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics while building confidence, problem-solving skills and a sense of belonging within the school community. By connecting science learning to real-world applications and future STEM careers, students will see that every great discovery begins with curiosity.
Seeds of Science: Growing Future Scientists at Bonnyrigg High School will create a fun, inclusive and memorable National Science Week experience that celebrates learning, exploration and the potential of every student.
