Seeds of Curiosity – Growing wonder at Flaxmill School

  • From
  • Flaxmill School P-6
Flaxmill School P-6, Morphett Vale, SA 5162, Australia

What happens when curiosity is planted? Amazing discoveries begin to grow!

During National Science Week, Flaxmill School P–6 will transform into interactive Curiosity Zones, where every student from Preschool to Year 6 becomes a scientist, engineer, and problem solver. These hands-on learning spaces will encourage students to ask questions, investigate ideas, and discover how STEM connects to the world around them.

Each Curiosity Zone will feature an exciting STEM challenge. Students will explore Mystery Seed Capsules containing unusual objects and use observation skills to hypothesise what might be inside. They will conduct live seed-growing experiments, making predictions, recording observations, and identifying patterns in growth over time. A collaborative Question Tree will invite students, staff, and families to share science wonders and respond to each other’s questions.

Cross-age activities will encourage teamwork, communication, and creativity while developing important scientific inquiry skills including predicting, fair testing, observing, analysing, and communicating findings. Activities will be accessible to all learners and designed to spark curiosity in every student.

Learning will continue beyond Science Week through family take-home curiosity kits, strengthening connections between school and home. Reusable resources and displays will remain in classrooms throughout the year, supporting ongoing inquiry-based STEM learning and building a lasting culture of curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving at Flaxmill School.
