Seeds in Action is a Year 6 STEM design competition that engages students in investigating how seeds are distributed in different real-world contexts and applying this knowledge to engineer effective solutions.
Students explore scenarios including:
- Agricultural farming, where seeds must be planted accurately in straight rows with consistent spacing
- Reforestation and environmental restoration, where seeds are distributed across broad or difficult-to-access areas
Using the engineering design process, students research, design, build, test, and refine a prototype seed distribution device suited to a specific scenario. Students consider variables such as seed size, distance, accuracy, sustainability, and efficiency while working within material constraints.
