Have you ever wondered what secrets nature is hiding all around you? At Snowy Mountains Grammar School (SMGS), we're spending a whole week digging them up — and it's going to be EPIC!

Our theme is "Seeds of Discovery: Growing curiosity, one question at a time." From Pre-School right through to Year 12, every student gets to be a real scientist.

The fun kicks off on Monday with a Junior School Lab, where Eat Street transforms into a hands-on science experiment for Prep to Year 6, led by our Year 11 student scientists. Classes then go head-to-head in a Science Trivia Challenge, with winning teams scoring a bonus science lesson as their prize. Throughout the week, junior school students also take part in special science activities in their classrooms — so the discovery never stops!

On Tuesday, secondary students become engineers for the House Catapult Cup. Teams will build and fine-tune their own catapults, then launch for distance and accuracy to earn House Shield points. The competition will be fierce — and very loud! Afterwards, join our first-ever Science Fair and hear talks from local scientists across the Snowy region. Senior students share their Depth Studies and Research Projects with the community — and our junior school students come along too, to meet the scientists and ask their big questions face to face.

Thursday night is out of this world. Dr Nelson leads a Stars and Stories Astronomy Evening, using laser pointers and real telescopes to explore planets, nebulae, and satellites in the night sky above our school.

Finally on Friday, Years 7–12 battle it out in the Science Week Kahoot Grand Finale — a fast-paced quiz covering everything from quarks to galaxies. Teams race for prizes, glory, and bragging rights.

Science Week at SMGS shows that science isn't just a school subject — it's a way of asking questions, finding patterns, and exploring everything around us. Come grow your curiosity with us this August!
