Seeds of Science: Growing Curiosity at Bayswater Primary School

What can we learn from a tiny seed?

During National Science Week, students at Bayswater Primary School will explore the theme Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All through fun, hands-on science activities.

Students from Years 1–6 will investigate seeds and plants to discover how they grow, survive and help support life on Earth. They will use digital microscopes to look closely at different seeds, explore what plants need to grow, and learn how seeds travel to new places through wind, water, animals and people.

Throughout the week, students will take part in exciting activities such as making seed bombs, growing seeds under different conditions, and completing seed dispersal challenges. They will ask questions, make predictions, test ideas and share their discoveries just like real scientists.

Students will also learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' deep connection to Country. They will explore how First Nations Peoples have used their knowledge of plants, seasons and the environment for thousands of years to care for the land and live sustainably.

The activities will help students understand how plants support healthy habitats and why it is important to look after our environment. They will be encouraged to think about how small actions can make a big difference for a more sustainable future.

National Science Week is a chance for students to be curious, creative and inspired by science. By exploring something as small as a seed, students will discover big ideas about nature, sustainability and the world around them.
