Join us for a fun evening of Science in the Pub with James Cook University scientists Jamie Seymour, Lori Lach, and Alex Loukas! Find out about things that bite and sting and whether they can kill you or if they just want a good feed.

  • Professor Jamie Seymour or the “Jelly Dude from Nemo land” has been researching and working with venomous and dangerous animals for over 20 yrs. Jamie will discuss which animals can kill you in Cairns.
  • Professor Alex Loukas studies how parasitic worms affect the human body and is developing drugs based on hookworm secretions in the hope of finding effective treatments for autoimmune diseases.  Alex will talk about things that bite from the inside.
  • Professor Lori Lach is an entomologist who researches social insect ecology, particularly invasive ants, ant-plant interactions, and pollination. Lori will talk about yellow crazy ants and bees.

At the end of the night your memory will be put to the test with some science trivia.

Food and drink will be available for purchase.
