Have you ever wanted to discover something that has been hidden for millions of years?
Visit Refreshing Memories during National Science Week and become a real fossil hunter or gemstone explorer!
Choose between a fossil dig or a gemstone dig and carefully excavate your treasure using real digging tools. Brush away the surrounding material, uncover your find and reveal what has been hidden inside. You might discover a fossil that is between 70 million and 500 million years old or uncover beautiful semi-precious gemstones from around the world.
Once you've made your discovery, clean it up and use our identification charts and digital microscope to work out exactly what you've found. Fossil hunters can create a specimen box and label to display their ancient treasure, while gem collectors can take home an identification sheet for their new collection.
Whether you're 4 or 94, there's something exciting about uncovering a hidden treasure with your own hands. No experience is needed, and every participant gets to take home what they discover.
