Have you ever wondered what a tiny seed needs to grow into a plant?

Join us for Plant, Grow, Discover! a fun, hands-on Science Week activity where students and their families will become plant scientists and create their very own mini greenhouse to take home.

Students will plant locally indigenous seeds, including colourful Billy Buttons and native paper daisies, in a mini greenhouse made from simple materials. Working alongside parents and carers, they will learn how plants grow and investigate the important things plants need to survive, such as water, sunlight and warmth. Participants will discover how a greenhouse works by trapping heat and moisture to create the perfect conditions for seeds to germinate.

The learning doesn’t stop when the session ends! Students will take their mini greenhouse home and continue observing their seeds as they sprout and grow. A simple observation sheet will encourage young scientists to record changes over time and think about how living things depend on their environment.  Come along and get your hands dirty, grow something amazing, and discover the science hidden inside every seed!
