Kick off National Science Week 2026 (15-23 August) with an evening of discovery, creativity, and hands-on fun at the National Science Week Launch for South Australia!

This free public event provides a taste of the exciting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) experiences available during National Science Week in South Australia, with exclusive activities and shows available for one night only.

Explore a lively exhibition area filled with engaging STEM activities for all ages, and enjoy live science shows on the main stage, from science comedy to museum curation. The program will have something for everyone.

Want to see what happens behind the scenes at the South Australian Museum? Throughout the evening, guided tours of the Science Centre will provide access to laboratories, collection spaces and working research areas that are rarely open to the public. Discover how Museum scientists investigate biodiversity, evolution and extinction, and learn how specimens and collections help tell the story of life on Earth.

Whether you're a science enthusiast, a family looking for a fun night out, an educator, or simply curious about the world around you, the National Science Week Launch for South Australia is your chance to experience the excitement of science and get a taste of what's to come during South Australia's biggest celebration of STEM.

Arrive anytime from when doors open at 5:30pm until close at 8pm. General admission allows access to the live shows. Please book your tickets for the Science Centre Tours separately, spaces are limited.

Location Information

The South Australian Museum’s Science Centre is located behind the South Australian Museum, on North Terrace in the City. From North Terrace, travel north on Kintore Avenue and turn right down Morgan Thomas Lane. Once on Morgan Thomas Lane you will walk past the Migration Museum and a boom gate, and the Science Centre is the large glass building on your left.
