Kids’ Conference - Food systems 2026

  • - (AEST)

We’re excited to invite primary and secondary students (ages 7 to 18) to present their food systems ideas to a panel of science and foodie experts as part of the Kids Conference- Food Systems 2026

Food Systems research can challenge our thinking about sustainability and equity. How do we use water and other resources, what is our place on Country and how do we contribute to overcoming environmental issues from food production? A goal of the conference is to share ideas about how we can balance nutritional food production without placing pressure on the natural systems we share with so many other species.

Presentations of student ideas about new opportunities and research projects which engage with regenerative food production, natural systems and social justice for food equity are particularly welcome.

The conference is held entirely online, so students can tune in from across the country. Registrations open from 2 June. teachers are invited to register on behalf of their students, who will be invited to present in groups of up to 5.

Presentations should be 10mins. As a guide you can present:

  1. A short summary of your big research idea surrounding Food Systems
  2. Your key research question you're exploring in your project
  3. Why this topic matters to you and your community
  4. How the challenge connects to other students

Presenting schools will receive an audience link for their class to view the presentations. This will be provided after registration.

Students presenting at this event also have an opportunity to present their Food Systems project at our main Kids' Conference Australia 2026 event on Monday 16 November at The University of Melbourne.
