Join us for Grow It and Know, a whole-school National Science Week investigation where students become scientists and explore this fascinating question: How does the colour of LED light affect the height growth of snow pea seedlings?
Students will design a fair test, develop hypotheses, collect and analyse data, and draw conclusions based on evidence. Using red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet LED lights, students will grow snow peas under carefully controlled conditions. By keeping all other variables constant, they will explore whether different wavelengths of light influence plant growth.
Families and community members will be invited to join the investigation by making predictions about which light colour will produce the greatest growth. These predictions will be gathered through online polls, sparking scientific discussion beyond the classroom and creating opportunities for people near and far to engage with the learning.
Throughout the investigation, students will document their observations through photographs, measurements, reflections and time-lapse video. Progress updates and results will be shared with the wider community as the experiment unfolds.
By combining scientific inquiry, digital technology and community participation, Grow It and Know showcases the curiosity and discovery that are at the heart of National Science Week.
