During science week, the French-Australian Preschool in Canberra will organise a fête de la science. With families and teachers, a science market will be planned. Small groups of children will be accompanied to each stall and invited to participate in age-appropriate science experiments prepared by their teachers and some of our families.
The children will investigate spectacular chemical reactions, including volcanoes, they will witness the colour of juice changing according to the acidity of the mix, or the effect of a surfactant on a milk and colorant mixtures. They will learn about sound wave and make sound visible.
During this fête, everyone will be able to try, touch and make: The children will make their own fossils, make paper mills, participate in balloon races, learn about sinking and floating and static electricity.
They will be exposed to the scientific approach to a problem, using hypothesis and drawing conclusions. This science fête will stimulate our students ‘interest, sharpen their curiosity, assist them in making logical arguments and thinking on their own and overall ignite a love for science.
