During National Science Week, our school will come alive with Enviro Day—a full-day, hands-on sustainability experience for students in Years 3–6 that celebrates creativity, innovation and environmental responsibility. Students will rotate through a series of engaging activities, including investigating water bugs, constructing bee habitats and exploring how everyday materials can be repurposed into something new.
A key highlight of the day will see Year 5 and 6 students take part in an exciting design challenge, transforming recycled milk bottle lids into purposeful products. Using heat and hand tools, Year 5 students will design and create items such as jewellery and bag tags, using hacksaws to shape their recycled plastic. Year 6 students will use digital technology to design their own bag tags, which will be precision-cut using a laser cutter.
This project empowers students to see waste as a resource, developing problem-solving, design thinking and creativity. It fosters a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship, as students contribute to a real-world solution while engaging in authentic STEM learning.
