Dr Isobel Bennett and the Secrets of Australia's Seashores

  • - (AEST)
  • National Library of Australia
Parkes Place West, Parkes ACT, Australia, Parkes, ACT 2617, Australia

Join us to explore the life and work of Dr Isobel Bennett, a pioneering Australian marine biologist, through the research of historian Dr Joy McCann.

In this talk, we will examine Dr Bennett’s experiences and achievements within the context of Australia’s role in the international postwar expansion of ocean and marine sciences. You will gain insight into her scientific contributions, as well as the motivations that led her to dedicate her life to studying and conserving Australia’s seashores.

In recognition of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science, and as the international community marks 50 years of women in Antarctica, we will celebrate the progress made to help shape attitudes to women’s participation in Australia’s marine and Antarctic research programs.

Join us in person or watch online. This event is free but bookings are essential.
