Plant It, Launch It, Grow It! Seeds of Science DakaScience Day!

Did you know that every giant tree, colourful flower and tasty fruit starts with a tiny seed? At Seeds of Science Discovery Day, students will become scientists, engineers and explorers as they discover the amazing world hidden inside seeds and plants.

Visiting primary school students will take part in a full day of hands-on STEM activities led by teachers and special guest experts. Students will create their own seed bombs to take home and grow, plant cress cups and investigate what seeds need to germinate and thrive. They will learn how plants travel to new places by designing and testing model seeds to see how wind can help seeds disperse.

Students will also become plant detectives as they carefully dissect flowers to uncover the important structures that help plants reproduce. A local seed-saving expert will share fascinating knowledge about collecting, preserving and protecting seeds, helping students understand why biodiversity is important for our future. Students will also explore sustainability through paper-making activities that demonstrate how materials can be reused and repurposed.

Throughout the day, students will ask questions, make observations, test ideas and learn through discovery. The event connects science with real-world environmental challenges and encourages curiosity about the natural world. By combining creativity, experimentation and hands-on learning, Seeds of Science DakaScience Day aims to inspire young people to see themselves as future scientists and innovators while developing a deeper appreciation for the plants that support life on Earth.
