Dive into Science: Pufferfish & Deep-Sea Volcanoes!

Get ready for a super fun, hands-on STEM adventure during National Science Week 2026! Join us for “Pufferfish & Deep-Sea Volcanoes: Underwater Chemistry”—a program designed just for Year 5 and 6 girls at Currajong State School.

What’s Happening?
We’ll explore marine science and chemistry through an awesome experiment that simulates a deep-sea hydrothermal vent (that’s a fancy name for an underwater volcano!). Using safe, everyday materials like citric acid, bicarbonate of soda, and food colouring, you’ll:

• Make predictions and conduct a real experiment.
• Observe bubbles, colours, and chemical reactions like a scientist.
• Learn how acids, bases, and pH affect ocean life.
• Discover why pufferfish and marine habitats depend on healthy water chemistry.
