Get ready to become a backyard weather detective!
This awesome project is installing two super-accurate weather stations right inside our school’s grounds and model garden to uncover the hidden secrets of "microclimates"—which are the special, tiny weather zones created by our garden's trees, fences, and plants. We will track live, real-time data like temperature, humidity, and rainfall, and then compare our findings against the big weather setups used by local commercial farmers and the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM).
By identifying how local topography and garden structures influence growing conditions compared to broadacre farming, we gain a greater understanding of:
- Hidden Weather Pockets: Learn how a simple brick wall or a tall tree can create a warm shelter or a cool, shady oasis for plants.
- Smart Farming Secrets: See firsthand how professional farmers use weather data to decide exactly when to water or protect their crops.
- Climate Resilient Gardening: Discover how to choose the absolute best spot in a garden for different plants to help them thrive.
- Real-World Science Skills: Master the art of reading live data charts and comparing your own schoolyard stats to official national weather reports.
