Cosmic Breath - Stories, Stars and Stillness

When was the last time you looked at the clouds and imagined shapes and stories? When was the last time you stood beneath the stars for a whole hour, wondering what it might feel like to travel through space?

Cosmic Breath: Stories, Stars and Stillness invites you to slow down, look up and rediscover the wonder of the sky. This two-hour experience brings together astronomy, guided meditation and creativity in a calm and welcoming setting.

Begin by exploring the night sky with UTAS astrophysicist Dr Karelle Siellez and astrophotographer Lisa Bromfield. Through telescopes, or projected images in the event of rain or clouds, you will observe stars, planets, nebulae and galaxies, and learn what these objects are, how far away they are and how scientists study them. No previous knowledge of astronomy is required.

You will then be guided through a gentle meditation beneath the stars, accompanied by stories inspired by Celtic and Slavic traditions. This will offer time to breathe, listen and experience the scale and beauty of the Universe. The session is designed to be accessible, and you are welcome to participate in whatever way feels comfortable.

Inspired by what you have observed, you will create your own constellation, imagine the story behind it, and paint or draw the celestial objects that captured your attention. Your work will become part of a personal Cosmic Journal that you can take home.

This event is for adults who are curious about science, creativity, or simply taking a quiet moment away from everyday life. All materials are provided, and no artistic or scientific experience is required.

Come and spend an evening observing, breathing and imagining. Leave with new knowledge of the Universe, your own cosmic creation, and perhaps a renewed sense of connection to the sky and to one another.
