Finding the Best Start for Seeds: A Soil Science Mission

What does it take to give a seed the best possible start? Join the young scientists of St Columba College as they embark on a hands-on mission to uncover the secrets hidden beneath our feet.

Participants will investigate how rocks become soil, discover the living organisms that keep soil healthy, explore the fascinating world of seeds and design a growing system for future space missions. Through a series of interactive Science stations inspired by the Life Rocks, Dirt Defenders and Seeds for Space projects, students will complete challenges, make observations and collect evidence to solve the mystery of what helps seeds thrive.

This free drop-in activity encourages curiosity, scientific thinking and environmental stewardship while highlighting the important connections between Geology, Ecology, agriculture and future food production. Complete all mission stations to earn recognition as a Seed Scientist and take home a kit for growing your own plants.
