Willie Creek Pearl Farm tours give visitors an insight into the production of cultured pearls from South Sea pearl oysters (Pinctada maxima).
Pearling is worth over $200 million to the Western Australian economy and has been a part of life in Broome since the 1880s.
As well as hearing about how the oysters are harvested and cultivated, visitors can see a pearl being seeded in a live oyster.
The tour includes a cruise on Willie Creek inlet to see panels of pearl oysters and maybe the occasional crocodile.
Willie Creek Pearl Farm is 38 km north of Broome. Coach transfers from Broome accommodation are available or visitors can drive themselves to the farm (4WD recommended). Tour fees apply and bookings are essential.
