Science Fair Extravaganza – Students as Scientists, Leaders and Innovators

What happens when students become the scientists? At Jingili Primary School, National Science Week comes alive during our Science Fair Extravaganza—an exciting celebration where students take centre stage and share their passion for science!

For this special event, students become “Science Experts.” Instead of simply learning about science from a teacher or a textbook, they become the scientists themselves. They investigate questions that interest them, carry out experiments or research, make observations, collect and analyse information, and develop their own conclusions.

On the day, our outdoor learning spaces are transformed into a vibrant science exhibition. Students set up interactive displays and experiments and confidently explain their investigations to classmates, younger students, teachers, families and visitors. They answer questions, demonstrate how things work and share what they have discovered.

The Science Fair showcases investigations across four exciting areas of science:

Biology – exploring living things and how they grow, survive and interact.

 Chemistry – investigating materials, substances and the changes they can undergo.

Earth and Space Science – discovering our planet, weather, rocks, natural events, the Solar System and beyond.

Physics – exploring forces, energy, light, sound, movement and how things work.

The Science Fair is much more than an exhibition. It gives students the opportunity to think like scientists, lead like experts and communicate like professionals. They develop important skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, collaboration and scientific communication.

Most importantly, students discover that their questions matter, their ideas have value, and they are capable of making sense of the world around them through science.
