For my event I am going to a Primary School class to engage the students in hands on experiments in small groups and a quick demonstration at the end. I will have two stations, the first, a forces and motion focused activity called ballon rockets! In this activity the students will make their own Lego car and use a blowed up ballon to make the car move. The students will discuss how the air from the ballon makes the car move and what forces are used. The second station is a state of matter focused activity called Oobleck investigation! In this activity they will use cornstarch and water to make Oobleck and observe how it behaves. The class will be split into two groups, and one half will go to station one and the other to station two, after each group has finished, they will rotate.
I will end the event with a mini water cycle demonstration, by using warm water in a cup, covering it with plastic wrap and adding an ice cube on top to simulate a water cycle. The students can then discuss what happens to the water and why.
