teachSTEM’s National Science Week Social Media Competition invites people of all ages to create a short video that showcases a citizen science project, activity, observation or environmental issue that is important to them. The competition will help us celebrate environmental stewardship, increase awareness of citizen science and encourage more people to participate in scientific research.

Key Dates

  • Competition opens 16 July 2026
  • Competition closes 23 August 2026
  • Winners announced 4 September 2026

HOW TO ENTER

  1. Create a 10 to 30 second video about citizen science.
  2. Post the video to your public social media account.
  3. Tag teachSTEM and use the official competition hashtag – #teachSTEMcomp26.
  4. Complete the online entry form.
  5. If you are under 18 years of age, submit the required parent or guardian consent form.

Videos can:

  • demonstrate participation in an existing citizen science project
  • explain why citizen science is important
  • showcase environmental observations or monitoring activities
  • highlight how citizen science contributes to positive environmental outcomes.
