Every great journey begins with a story. For thousands of generations, First Nations peoples have used storytelling to pass down the knowledge of how to survive, thrive and care for Country in some of the harshest places on Earth. Now, what if that story took us all the way to the Moon?
Welcome to the Moon Base Challenge – a survival story you get to write yourself!
This two-hour workshop takes you on an epic journey. It begins here, on Country, at the beautiful Gwoonwardu Mia Cultural Centre, listening to the deep plant wisdom that has helped people survive in tough, resource-scarce environments for 60,000 years. Then it launches you straight into the unknown.
Your story starts the moment your crew touches down on the lunar surface. Now what?
The water is limited. The light is strange. The soil is nothing like home. And your team needs to eat. This is where ancient knowledge and space science come together, because surviving on the Moon asks the exact same questions that First Nations peoples have been answering on Country for thousands of generations:
Which plants give the most with the least?
Working in teams, your group will map out your survival story, debating, designing and defending your lunar food plan before presenting it to the room.
Your journey. Your story. Your Moon Base.
