Have you ever wondered why things fizz, bubble, change colour or react in surprising ways? What if you could become a scientist and discover the answers for yourself?

Curious Chemists is Penders Grove Primary School's exciting whole-school Science Fair, held during National Science Week. Every student from Foundation to Year 6 will become a scientist, exploring the fascinating world of chemical reactions and discovering how matter changes all around us.

In the weeks leading up to the fair, students will take part in hands-on investigations linked to the Victorian Curriculum. Using our "See it, Do it, Teach it" approach, students will first observe experiments, then carry them out themselves, and finally teach others what they have learned. This helps students develop their science knowledge, curiosity and confidence.

The highlight of the project is our afternoon Science Fair showcase. Students will set up experiment stations and become science communicators, demonstrating their experiments to families, teachers and visitors. They will explain what happened, why it happened and answer questions about the science behind their investigations. Foundation students will be supported by their Year 6 buddies, creating valuable leadership and mentoring opportunities.

Visitors will be able to explore the fair, watch exciting experiments in action and learn directly from our student scientists. Every year level will showcase age-appropriate investigations that demonstrate their learning about chemical sciences.

Curious Chemists is about more than just science. It encourages curiosity, critical thinking, communication and teamwork while bringing students, families and the wider school community together. Through hands-on learning and shared discovery, students will develop a deeper understanding of the world around them and experience the excitement of scientific exploration.
