  • Barnsley Public School
6 Cliffbrook St, Barnsley, NSW 2278, Australia

Seeds of Science: Nurturing knowledge for all". Running from August 15–23, 2026, our school theme focuses on fostering curiosity, inquiry, and STEM education, particularly through agriculture, biotechnology, and environmental science, aligning with UN international years.

PLAN: Student leaders to assist in running activities across the school at lunch times.

Monday – Seed Dissection & Investigation: Analyse seed structure (coat, embryo, food store) using bean seeds to understand plant biology. Students will then plant seeds to sprout and grow their own bean plant to take home.

Tuesday – Nature Scavenger Hunt – using photo checklist of plants and natural materials found around the school, have students find and mark off. Include indigenous plants. Provide magnifier glasses to search with.

Wednesday – Bird Feeders – students make bird feeders with coconut oil and mix bird seed with gelatine and flour, mold into shapes, and hang. Ask families to send in tubes (not toilet paper ones only paper towel and foil etc).

Thursday BIOTECHNOLOGY EXPERIMENT – Water Pollution Cleanup: Perform an oil spill experiment to investigate how materials can be used in biotechnology to clean up environmental damage.
